Chapter 3 - What the Video Actually ProvedOn the bright screen, Fiona appeared laughing hysterically while Bethany, pale and visibly trembling, struggled to carry a heavy tray of food. Then my own mother's clear voice echoed through the room. "If she faints again, just leave her lying out in the yard," my mother said coldly on the recording. "She always puts on some dramatic show whenever guests come around."

The heavy silence that followed inside that living room landed far louder than any angry scream could have. Fiona tried lunging forward to snatch the phone straight out of my hand, but one officer quickly stepped in to block her. My mother looked frantically toward the lawyer, then the notary, desperately searching for some legal loophole to escape through.
"That recording doesn't prove the money was ever actually yours to begin with!" my mother shouted defensively. "You sent those funds because you were a good son, and once deposited, that money legally became mine!"
I calmly pulled out four full years of international bank transfer receipts, my official payroll slips, text conversations where she'd explicitly promised to manage my funds toward building a house, and messages assuring me Bethany was receiving proper care the entire time.
Then I placed a small folded paper directly in front of her on the table. It was the original sales receipt from the local shop that had purchased my wife's own hair for one hundred and fifty dollars.
"While you were hoarding over seventy thousand dollars inside private investment accounts, Bethany sold her own hair just to pay for a cancer biopsy," I said, voice carrying cold clarity throughout. "Are you genuinely going to claim her hair was some kind of gift to you too?"
My mother looked down toward the floor for one brief second before her face hardened all over again. "She was always a weak woman," my mother spat out bitterly. "Besides which, you're my own biological son, and your mother should always come first!"
"Being my mother never once gave you the legal or moral right to let my own wife slowly die," I responded firmly.
Fiona let out a sharp, nervous laugh. "You don't even actually know if she's genuinely sick!" Fiona claimed dramatically. "She probably manipulated you with fake stories, purely to steal everything for herself!"
My lawyer immediately opened the official medical folder, revealing detailed diagnostic scans, ultrasound images, pathology reports, records of severe weight loss, and urgent surgical recommendations. He also presented a formal criminal complaint Bethany had officially filed regarding terrorizing threats, restricted communication, psychological abuse, and intentional medical neglect.
My mother's face turned completely pale. "A formal police complaint?" she whispered in disbelief. "Against your own biological family?"
"My true family was the woman who waited faithfully for me across four long years," I replied directly. "You only ever used our shared blood as a free license to steal my labor and humiliate my own wife."
Seeing her defense crumbling apart, Estelle suddenly shifted tactics entirely. She dropped straight to her knees, began weeping loudly, and grabbed both my hands. "Anderson, my dear boy, I only ever wanted to secure Fiona's future!" my mother begged tearfully. "A young woman needs solid financial assets, so her husband genuinely respects her after marriage — but you're a strong man, capable of easily going back to work and earning more money!"
That single sentence completely destroyed whatever lingering affection still remained inside my own heart. I'd spent four years sleeping in cramped trailer quarters alongside six other workers, working straight through high fevers, wearing worn-out boots purely to save money, spending lonely holidays staring at a phone screen. For my mother, all of that agonizing sacrifice could simply be repeated over and over, purely because I happened to be a man — while for Fiona, my own sweat amounted to nothing more than an unlimited credit card.
"I never took anything that ever actually belonged to either of you," I stated clearly. "This house was built entirely with my own earnings. The investments came directly from my paychecks. And you voluntarily signed those transfer forms, purely because you greedily expected four hundred thousand dollars more."
Fiona began crying genuine tears of panic. "My wedding's scheduled in less than a month!" Fiona sobbed hysterically. "What am I supposed to tell Gavin now, when he's expecting this house as part of my own wedding settlement?"
"Tell him the absolute truth," I answered without hesitation. "Tell him you claimed ownership over wealth your own brother earned through hard labor, while you left your sick sister-in-law to starve without any real medical care."
The notary officially confirmed the property donation had been entirely voluntary, that every legal consequence had been fully explained beforehand, and that the deed transfer was already processing at the county records office. My lawyer added that any legal challenge they attempted would fail outright, given the overwhelming evidence of financial tracking, written deception, and documented abuse.
I didn't want to turn that entire evening into some public spectacle, so I granted them three full days to pack their personal clothing and belongings. I also made explicitly clear they were legally barred from approaching or contacting Bethany at all, as the officers formally handed them temporary protection orders.
My mother glared at me with genuine hatred as I turned to leave. "The entire town will know you threw out the mother who gave you life!" she screamed after me.
"And they'll also learn exactly why I did it," I replied calmly.
Over the following three days, Estelle frantically phoned uncles, cousins, neighbors, and our local pastor, claiming Bethany had put some dark spell over me, and that a manipulative woman had destroyed our entire family. She never once anticipated that I'd actually break my own silence.
I gathered our extended family together in the courtyard, not to publicly humiliate anyone, but purely because my mother had already spread her own distorted version of events. I presented the official wire receipts, the bank statements, the medical diagnostics, and one short clip pulled from that birthday video.
My aunt Verna, who'd spent years admiring my mother's expensive gold jewelry, covered her own mouth in absolute shock. "Estelle, did you genuinely know that poor girl had cancer, and refused her even bus fare?" Aunt Verna asked in horror.
My mother feebly claimed Bethany was exaggerating her illness, but our neighbor, Mrs. Adler, spoke up firmly from the front gate. "I personally watched that poor girl walking miles down the hot road, because she lacked bus fare," Mrs. Adler revealed to everyone gathered. "I also saw her come home with her head completely shaved, and when I asked about it, Fiona lied and claimed it was punishment for laziness."
The whole elaborate web of lies collapsed instantly, right in front of the entire community.
On the fourth day, Estelle and Fiona quietly packed their belongings and moved into a small rented room near the regional bus station. They took their personal clothes, identification, and their own individual jewelry, since I had no genuine desire to act with the exact same cruelty they'd once shown.
Their lavish lifestyle came to a sudden, complete halt. Fiona quickly discovered that Gavin was far from the devoted partner he'd once pretended to be, canceling their wedding the instant he realized there'd be no luxury house, private spa, or bank fortune attached to her name after all. When Fiona angrily accused him of being a gold digger, Gavin retorted sharply that she'd fraudulently lied about her own family's wealth from the very beginning.

My mother attempted accessing the investment accounts at her bank, only to be formally reminded by bank officials and legal advisors that she'd legally transferred those assets away, entirely of her own free will. Yet their harshest punishment was never really losing the money itself, but rather being forced to live inside a reality where nobody catered to their selfish demands anymore.
My mother was forced to take a job preparing meals on commission. Fiona worked long hours as a front desk receptionist at a local beauty salon, finally learning firsthand exactly how difficult it genuinely was to earn money they'd once thrown away so thoughtlessly.
