Chapter 3 - Times SquareConstance had no idea the Vesper Kane standing before her now was no longer the naive, fragile Elena of five years ago she could easily manipulate.

Inside a high-security penthouse, Vesper stepped through the door, removing her sunglasses. The icy armor on her face instantly melted away as a small figure dashed across the room and threw both arms around her. "Mommy!" Theo, a five-year-old boy with ash-gray eyes an exact replica of Dorian's, hugged her neck tight.

"My sweet Theo, have you been a good boy?" Vesper held her son close, breathing in his familiar, comforting scent. This boy was the only reason she'd crawled back from the dead. This was precisely why she'd agreed to sell her soul to Wall Street's cutthroat vultures, securing her new identity as Vesper Kane, reigning queen of venture capital.

A man stepped out from the shadows. Desmond Wren — a ruthless, silver-tongued attorney widely known as "The Cleaner for the Billionaire Class." Also her sole ally, the only person who knew the dark truth of her actual past.

"Constance Ashcombe took the bait," Desmond said smoothly, swirling amber liquid in his crystal glass. "She's pulling every old-money favor to blackout mainstream media. Tomorrow's front-page exposés have already been scrubbed. In fact, she just authorized a fifty-million-dollar bounty to put a hit team on your son's location."

Vesper didn't look remotely surprised. A cold, lethal smile crept onto her lips instead. "I expected nothing less. But as the saying goes — if you can't control the media, become the media. Does Constance genuinely believe her dirty money can block out the sun? Desmond, activate Phase B."

Phase B was a calculated, direct strike at high society's greatest vulnerability — catastrophic arrogance. Instead of leaking the tape to traditional press, Vesper bypassed it entirely. Through a pre-scheduled cyber-strike, she routed the audio directly into the mainframe of the giant LED billboards stretching across Meridian Square, alongside thousands of digital displays throughout the subway network.

At three that morning, Dorian drove frantically through deserted streets. He desperately needed to find Vesper, to beg for a shred of mercy, but her phone was entirely untraceable. Midst his chaotic thoughts, his sports car slammed to a halt, trapped at a major intersection in Meridian Square by a sudden, bizarre traffic gridlock. All at once, the massive towering screens that usually flashed luxury advertisements began flickering violently before cutting to absolute black.

A second later, Constance's voice boomed over the city's public audio systems — amplified, crystal clear, dripping with merciless cruelty. "Throw that worthless bitch Elena out onto the street. The baby? We keep him as the legitimate heir, but tell Dorian the child was stillborn. My idiotic son doesn't need to know the truth about her filthy, low-class bloodline..."

Thousands of late-night pedestrians and drivers caught in the gridlock simultaneously looked up, faces washed in neon glow. A collective gasp rippled through the crowd. Phones began buzzing in unison with breaking news notifications. The audio went globally viral in under sixty seconds.

Dorian collapsed onto his own steering wheel, hot tears of utter humiliation and rage burning his eyes. His mother's empire, his own pride, the unblemished honor of the Ashcombe name — it had all officially turned to ash that night.

The following morning, the grand lobby of Ashcombe headquarters sat completely besieged by hundreds of aggressive reporters and armed federal agents. An emergency arrest warrant for Constance Ashcombe had been issued, covering conspiracy to kidnap, falsification of government death certificates, and high-level corporate bribery. Mrs. Ashcombe was escorted out in cold steel handcuffs, desperately using her coat to shield her pale, defeated face from flashing cameras.

Watching from a distance, stepping out of a sleek midnight-black car, Vesper Kane appeared clad in a powerful, immaculate white pantsuit, staring at Constance with the piercing, satisfied gaze of an apex predator that had just closed in on its prey.

Dorian broke through the chaotic crowd, lunging toward her. Security instantly blocked his path, but Vesper raised a single hand, signaling them to stand down.

"Vesper... I'm so sorry... please, just let me see Theo. The boy is my son, I have a right..." Dorian begged, the legendary arrogance of the billionaire entirely shattered.

Vesper stepped closer, leaning until her breath brushed his ear. "You want to exercise your paternal rights now, Mr. Ashcombe? Too little, too late. Look behind you."

Dorian turned. From the back seat of her car, a middle-aged man stepped onto the pavement. The moment his face caught the light, Dorian's jaw dropped, deafening silence falling over the surrounding reporters.

It was Edmund Ashcombe — the titan father declared dead in a tragic plane crash seven years earlier, the very man Constance had destroyed to seize control of the family fortune. He wasn't dead. And standing right beside him was Desmond Wren.

Edmund looked at his son, eyes filled with absolute, profound disappointment. "Dorian, your mother ruined you, and you ruined Elena. Today, I'm back to reclaim Ashcombe Global... and hand it over to the only person genuinely worthy of the name."

The old titan placed his hand firmly on Vesper's shoulder. She flashed Dorian a theatrical, devastating smile. "The game has only just begun, Dorian. I'm not just taking your son. I'm going to take every single penny bearing the Ashcombe name."
